The speed above spreads the climbing evenly over the route. This walks the elevation profile metre by metre instead, so one steep wall counts for what it really costs. Slower to work out, and usually gives a lower figure on hilly routes.
Garmin Connect's web importer ignores waypoints. It only reads route/track data to build a course, so your stops get dropped there — regardless of the file. Use one of these instead:
